In 2021, the Monemvasia Society initiated the "Living History of Monemvasia" programme to document and celebrate the long, rich history of this Byzantine town City. With over 25 oral history video interviews already conducted, the project has brought together stories from those who have been born, lived, worked, loved and invested in Monemvasia the last few over the recent decades. Their experiences and sentiments provide a profound, multidimensional view of the place, adding depth to our understanding of its identity and community.
These oral histories, curated under the guidance of the archaeologist Despoina Evgenidou, aren't are not just historical records; they are the essence of Monemvasia's identity and community. The video has also incorporated photographs from the our extensive Monemvasia Society archive, adding a visual dimension to the captivating stories and enhancing the storytelling experience.
This is just the beginning, with more stories to uncover and share.
Our Living History Project looks to record the stories of the local people of Yefira and Monemvasia. Members of the society have been working hard to collect these stories for future generations. To donate to support this project, click the button below.
